FREE Craft Night at Etsy Labs
A few years ago, “crafting” was probably more widely associated with crazy women hand-painting wooden signs to say “Spoiled Rotten Akita Lives Here” or cross-stitching pillows with pictures of birds hugging crying kittens. But with the rise of DIY culture, crafting has turned into something hipper, with people making cross-stitches reading “Go Fuck Yourself.” Etsy is the Web site that lets people sell their crafts, everything from stuffed octopuses made of socks to handmade arguile clutches. Once a month, Etsy Labs does a FREE craft workshops to teach people how to make crafts that wouldn’t be sold at a bazaar at your grandmother’s church. Tonight, you can learn how to make ornaments and rolling ball books from Esther K. Smith, who writes books on making books with pop ups, orgami forms, and flexihexigons. I’m not sure exactly what a “rolling ball book” is, but my guess is you and your cat will be equally entertained by it. If you can’t make it to Etsy Labs, you can still take the workshop. Just watch the demonstration in Etsy’s virtual labs at 5pm.
