As the title of this post suggests, Gotham City Lounge is a fucking great bar. It’s cheap. It’s genuinely divey. It’s got a pool table. It’s right under the Central Ave. M train stop (and within walking distance of the Myrtle Ave.-Broadway J stop). It has great atmosphere. This truly might be one of the best places in the world. And, oh yeah, it is absolutely chockfull of comic book memorabilia. Yeah. I know. Why are we not all there right now?

In Bushwick, you have two basic kinds of bars: hipster bars and local/neighborhood/ethnic enclave bars. (Yes, there is great variation within those two basic types.) Gotham City Lounge (along with Two 80) is one of the few places that have melded the two together. On most nights I’ve gone there, the makeup of the clientele has been an even mix of skinny jeans/flannel shirts and oversized pants/color-coordinated Yankees caps. It’s refreshing going to a bar where a range of people mingle and comfortably interact with each other. What’s the fun in being insular?

And when I say cheap, I really mean a humble holdings haven. $2 will get you a can of PBR or a Rolling Rock. $3 will get you a Bud, Tecate, Coors Light or shot of whiskey and a PBR. (Did I just say three fucking dollars for a shot of whiskey and a PBR!? Yes, I fucking did!) $4 will get you a Brooklyn Lager, Sam Adams, Corona, Heineken or a shot of whiskey and a Rolling Rock. On Wednesdays, Rolling Rock is $1 till 10pm. What are you waiting for? Get your broke ass on down to Gotham City Lounge. Walk down Myrtle and look for the life-sized Batman and Superman coming out of a wall and you’ve found it.
