FREE Three Minute Rock & Roll Stories
The first time I ever went to Brooklyn, it was my senior year in college and I was in Fort Greene, I think, to see Grand Buffet. After watching two goofy white dudes play a hip hop show, my friend and I went across the street to a poorly lit bar where the bartender was a goofy, skinny dude with a head full of slightly matted brown ringlets that went to his mid-back. We sat and drank our Pabst, and he carried on conversations with the regulars by yelling across the room. At one point he quietly said to a patron at the bar, “Yo, Rock ‘n’ Roll starts with the pants,” as he gestured down to his pair made of red patent leather.
If you’re looking for more short anecdotes about rock & roll, go to Matchless tomorrow night for The Greatest Three-Minute Rock&Roll Stories Ever. People, ranging from Village Voice and L Magazine writers to indie rock musicians will share their quick stories about being youth, booze, sex, and (wait for it…) rock & roll. They’ve also promised accordion covers of rock songs and a set by the Wailing Wall. It’s FREE, and will be way better than hiding inside to watch reruns of Behind the Music.
