FREE Comedy Show w/Fred Armisen and Brooklyn Flea Returns

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Even if your Sunday plans usually just involve some cleverly concealed cocktails and bumming around the park, there’s lots of options for awesome stuff to do today for the more motivated folk. This weekend marks the return of the ever-popular Brooklyn Flea.  There’s a whole new crop of vendors to pick through, I personally am looking forward to stuffing down some kimchi hot dogs. The flea will be rotating locations on the weekends. Saturdays they’re back in their old parking lot in Fort Greene and on Sunday’s they set up shop at the old Williamsburg Savings Bank also in Ft. Greene. If you really want to feel like a pimp, stop by the Red Hook Lobster Pound stand where they will be steaming whole lobsters to take home. Talk about a feast. Or you can be like me and just smell the aroma and save yourself $22. Check out the full vendor list here and over at Refinery 29, they have a great round-up of vendors to keep on your radar.

After you’ve gotten your kicks in Ft.Greene, head over to Tribeca for the pop-up live gallery space from Family bookstore. This LA based art book store is hosting a free 30 day event series . Featuring weekly performances, discussions, showcases and symposiums all on modern culture.  After they kicked off their opening with a performance by Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, expect only great things to follow. Tonight’s event features a comedy performance by SNL favorite, Fred Armisen and actor Jeffrey Wright.  I’m unfamiliar with Wright’s comedy credits considering Cadillac Records and Casino Royale weren’t exactly laugh-riots, but I’m sure Armisen can play ball with anyone. Other upcoming highlights include a presentation by Lance Bangs and Mike Bones, and a discussion with Peter Sutherland and Albert Maysles (of Grey Gardens fame). Check out their full schedule and be sure to stop by before it’s gone!

Laura S - Spendthrift Scribe

Laura S, left the "sixth borough" three years ago to settle in Brooklyn. After working at some daily rags, she now does writing on the side but still eats more Ramen then necessary. When she's not moving residences every 6 months, eating her way through every neighborhood, and trying every microbrew known to man, she is unsuccessfully rediscovering home economics. With her binging days behind her, she's now exploring new projects and rediscovering the city that she loves (although is still prone to sliding on her knees during a Prince karaoke set).
