The Counting Room
There sure are a lot of new things popping up all up on the north side of Williamsburg these days. Lodged within a weird DUMBO-area-looking strip-mall block next to a dry cleaning place on North 11th and Berry is just one of these new “things”– a little (actually sort of large) restaurant called The Counting Room. The interior kind of has the feel of an Urban Outfitters: The Restaurant thing happening, and whoever started this place must really like accounting jokes. The menus are re-fashioned file folders, and all the furnishings are like 90% old timey desks.
All math/accounting gags aside, I went here for brunch, and although I found that all the glassware made me feel like a giant and in general, everything was a bit overpriced ($6 for a bag of warm croutons? Really, guys?), the food was pretty tasty. I had a veggie sandwich with cheese and it was pre-tty, pre-tty, pre-tty good. They also have these French Toast Stick things that harken back to my Jack N’ The Box drive-thru days in Southern California– you know, except kla$$ier and more expensive-like.
All in all, I’d say it’s worth checking out. Especially because of that random Dingo-looking dog in the downstairs area. But don’t get the grilled cheese with truffle oil. It’s totally not worth like $12.
