FREE Sprinklers in NYC Parks and Playgrounds
While my Leatherman is perfect for fixing eye glasses, opening bottles and cutting my friends’ hair in bars, the tool is completely useless for making fire hydrant sprinklers. I’m not ready to start carrying a giant wrench with me everywhere, so I’ll just keep depending on other people to open up the hydrants on hot days. Or even better, I’ll go run through a sprinkler in a park with water pressure that isn’t designed for putting out a fire.
I’m not talking about the kind of sprinkler your dad used to mow the lawn. There are TONS of playgrounds and parks across the boroughs with mini fountains designed specifically for running through. It’s free pool season, but sometimes you’re out and about and feel like your skin is going to fuse to the sidewalk if your foot falls out of your flip flop. When this happens, go to any of these parks and find the sprinkler. A lot of them are in playgrounds, so make sure you’re nice to the tiny humans and don’t terrify their parents. Oh, and judging by the Dean Street playground, these magical sprinklers seem to be on all night, so you can scamper through after last call.
