Friday Night Bike Rides
You know that huge herd of bicyclists take over streets every month, ringing their little high-pitched bells at you to get out of the crosswalk when it’s not your turn to walk and looking like a PG version of the Hells Angels? I have always thought they were SO annoying… until I got a bike. And now I want to be a helmeted hogger, too!
On Friday, October 1st folks and their wheels have two opportunities to ride amok: The aforementioned First Friday Ride and the Midnight Ride in Central Park. Both are monthly and the former starts at 7PM in Union Square North and encourages costumes, music and snacks to share (I mean, everything’s more fun with snacks, no?); and joggers and skaters are welcome as well. The bikers will usually hit up the latter after for the kind of adrenaline rush that comes with doing a thing that every cell in your body instinctively knows to be dangerous, and meet in Columbus Circle around 10PM for about 10 miles of exploring Central Park in the dark via bike.
The Central Park ride will wrap by midnight, just in time for you to join your friends at a bar to drink the beer you’ve already burned off. So, see you in the streets! Or park! Or, um, crosswalk!
