Free Theater, Music and Booze at Pantry Party this Saturday

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

The Pantry Party is a like a hipper, smarter version of the canned food drives we all did in elementary school. Knowing that donating a non-perishable now takes more effort than sneaking the cans of food you like least from your parents’ pantry, this group takes the party part seriously by putting on regular events that benefit both the arts community AND those in need. (Yes, if you’re thinking that you’re kind of a jerk if you don’t go to at least one… you’re right.)

This Saturday, the group presents two short plays in verse by Stuart Watson from his sequence “Men of Action.” Sam Mickens stars as political assassin Lee Oswald, while Stu Watson incarnates the Chicago serial killer H.H. Holmes. There is no cover, but for $10 or by bringing 10 cans of food, one can gain access to an open bar.

All proceeds will be donated to the local food pantry, and there will also be live music, art on display, and dancing (aka better go with the open bar. Ooh, see what they did there?!).

The Pantry Party
Saturday, October 16th. Doors 8:30PM. Show 10PM.
The Texas Firehouse
36-29 Vernon Blvd (btn 36th & 37th Aves)
[Long Island City, Queens]

Jill is an Ohio native and Boston University graduate who refuses to stop saying "pop" and wearing her Red Sox gear despite being heckled for doing so since moving to Brooklyn. She's been honing her thrifty ways since doing that silly thing people talk about when they ignore reason to follow their hearts and chose a career in the fulfilling but faltering music industry. She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
