Cup: Coffee With Room For Trivia
You know what one of the signs that I just made up of what a great coffee place is? Consistency. You know what shop has more consistency than Goods and Second Stop COMBINED, even though it might not necessarily have as “good” of a coffee brand? That’s right: a little green place called Cup in Greenpoint. When I go there, I KNOW my coffee will taste just as yummy as it had last week or last month. I’m sorry that I can’t say the same for the other two, especially Goods, even though I like both places.
Though Cup, unlike Goods or Second Stop, doesn’t have “food” food, they have amazing pastries from Balthazar as well as homemade ones. I especially love the croissants– if they run out of plain ones, the almond ones are not too sweet. You know what the weird thing is? It’s NEVER crowded, even though they have lovely and colorful W magazines and pretty-looking books scattered about their coffee table area.
Oh, and the main thing you should know about is that they have a different trivia question written on their chalkboard every day. If you get the answer right, you get like a quarter or so off your coffee. It’s just way more fun coming up with the trivia answer than getting the quarter off, to be honest, because if you’re like me and have a borderline autistic interest in movies, TV and pop culture, you’ll have even more reason to get up in the morning than just good coffee.
