Nachos! Beer! Sports! At Professor Thom’s
Although my Ohio State “I bleed scarlet and gray maaan” allegiance should keep me from ever so much as walking on the same side of the street of a bar known as my rival Michigan hang-out, I cannot resist the siren call of good nachos. And Professor Thom’s has the best pile of cheesy heart attack I’ve had in the city yet. They’re so good they actually started making them in size XL so you don’t get all bummed when all your dopey friends start grabbing at ’em. Yep. That. Good.
I suppose I should talk about the other redeeming qualities of PT’s. First and foremost, it is also a Red Sox bar, and during any Sox game Professor Thom’s Ale is only $4. The bar actually does all kinds of nice things like offering happy hour prices, normally $3 for domestic drafts/$4 wine and wells from 11-7, during big games or putting certain beers on special. So yeah, I can respect that. They also have 17 beers on draft, from Bud Light to beloved Boston brewery Harpoon, and the food is reasonably priced at around $9.95 for most (huge) sandwiches, all with a side of tots or fries.
Every Tuesday is Trivia Night upstairs (Yes, they have an upstairs! In NYC!) and Wednesdays they play Bingo. They also love them some watch parties, having hosted Lost devotees for its 6-year run and now turning to things like the ESPN 30 for 30 Premiere this Sunday. OK, PT’s, YOU WIN. I WILL KEEP COMING TO YOUR BAR. A LOT. Just don’t tell anyone I know in Ohio, mmkay?
