Tentacle Machines and Anthropomorphic Mice at BAM Cinemas
I’ve held a grudge against the animated short category at the Oscar’s since Don Herzfeldt didn’t win for Rejected. But I changed my mind last night when I saw this year’s winner, The Lost Thing, about a boy finding a home for the tentacle-filled machine he found on the beach. Out of this year’s nominees, I would’ve voted for it, too. You can retroactively decide who you wanted to win at BAM Rose Cinemas. They’re playing all ten of the Oscar nominated animated shorts through Sunday. It’s a fine collection featuring cows who want to be hamburgers, tiny anthropomorphic mice scaring predators with a mythical beast, a trip to Madagascar, night and day having a fight and a piece ironically supporting pollution. They’re so enthralling that you’ll be happy to pay full price.
