Happy Record Store Day

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Today is the day where thousands of bespectacled music nerds (myself included) celebrate all things vinyl for National Record Store Day. More then just a music industry sales ploy, hundreds of artists have new special releases and re-releases just for the occasion. Featuring everyone from Bad Brains, Sonic Youth, Fleetwood Mac, etc, there’s vinyl for everyone. Even a special photo lp from Lady Gaga, for those unabashed fans out there.

While the really hot items are already sold out and up for sale on ebay, there’s still plenty of good finds out there. Plus many of the participating stores will be hosting special live concerts and free donuts and coffee for the devotees (Thanks Soundfix!).

Out of the numerous live performances that will be going on, some highlights are: Regina Spektor at Other Music, DJ sets by Yo La Tengo at Generation Records, and Waxpoetics will be hosting performances at their pop-up store in Dumbo including The Phenomenal Handclap Band.

For a complete list of events, check out Brooklyn Vegan’s cheatsheet, and click HERE for the complete list of vinyl releases today. F the Easter Bunny, this is certainly one holiday worth celebrating.

Laura S - Spendthrift Scribe

Laura S, left the "sixth borough" three years ago to settle in Brooklyn. After working at some daily rags, she now does writing on the side but still eats more Ramen then necessary. When she's not moving residences every 6 months, eating her way through every neighborhood, and trying every microbrew known to man, she is unsuccessfully rediscovering home economics. With her binging days behind her, she's now exploring new projects and rediscovering the city that she loves (although is still prone to sliding on her knees during a Prince karaoke set).
