Pharoahe Monch and Robert Glasper at DROM

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

There’s a hurricane coming, the farmers’ markets won’t be out, the subway is shutting down at noon, and Afro-Punk is canceled. What do you do?

First, get out of bed pronto, head to the store and stock up on as much dry food and alcohol as possible. Then hunker down with your roomies or evacuated friends (or if you’re an evacuee, with your hosts) and have an intimate hurricane party.  In fact, here’s a recipe for a Hurricane , but you can leave out the cherries and pineapples, the most important thing is the rum.

I’m sure that cabin fever’ll hit you though, so once the coast is clear and the subway’s are running again, emerge from your cocoon for a mixed media mélée at Drom.  Acclaimed jazz pianist Robert Glasper and MC Pharoahe Monch will be celebrating the forthcoming film RPM by performing together on Tuesday, August 30th. RPM, which stands for Revolutions Per Minute, will tell the story of a Bronx rapper’s unlikely comeback in Paris. Glasper and Monch, who had their hands in the movies soundtrack, will be joined by Brooklyn’s own Live Footage and BrandonYoung, and an art exhibit by Samir Arghandwhall.

You can get your fix of music, art and film that Irene is going to deprive you of this weekend all in one night at one place. And, the best part is that it’s FREE with rsvp to rsvp@rpmthemovie.com

The RPM Show
Tuesday, August 30th
7PM-11PM

Tiara Francis - NY Know-it-all

Tiara was born in NYC, raised in NJ, and after studying Comp Lit at Columbia, vowed to never go back to the suburbs. While she has expensive taste, she also has shallow pockets and is always looking for a budget way to be a weekend warrior. Her hobbies include laughing way too loudly, putting hot sauce on/in everything - including margaritas - speaking French at inappropriate moments, and dancing like there’s no one else in da club.
