Broke-Ass Kitchen: Peanut Butter Banana Cookies
Hello! Welcome to the inaugural post of the Broke-Ass Kitchen, a new weekly feature from your penniless pals here at BAS. We’re going to load you up with tons of cheap recipes so that you can stay well-fed even when your wallet’s not. Nothing will involve having to special order ingredients, or miss out on a beer because you spent all your money on Dandelion Salt (is that a thing? I totally bet that’s a thing). The whole idea is to help you save money by making things at home.
To start, I’m offering up one of my biggest crowd-pleasers: Peanut Butter Banana Cookies with Chocolate and Pretzels. If they sound good, it’s because they are, bitches! Whether you want to say you’re sorry when you’ve embarrassed yourself and others yet again or just want to trick people into liking you, these cookies are your gold.
Peanut Butter Banana Cookies with Chocolate and Pretzels
Ingredients: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup peanut butter (chunky or smooth), 1 egg, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp baking soda, pinch of salt, 1 banana chopped into small pieces, 1 cup of broken up pretzels, 1/4 cup of broken up chocolate bar.
Cost: Around $5. Seriously.
Time: About 20 minutes.
Soundtrack: Elvis Presley, renowned lover of the banana and PB combo, of course!
The plan: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend sugar and peanut butter together, then add egg until thoroughly mixed. Add the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and stir so the batter is consistently chunky, then plop in walnut-sized balls about 2″ apart on a greased cooking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, then let cool for 5-10. Then go win yourself some friends!
