FREE Admission and Performance at the New Museum This Thursday
The New Museum— currently home to a ridiculous giant slide, among other awesome artistic attractions– offers FREE admission every Thursday night from 7-9pm. There’s really no better way to spend a Thursday evening than viewing and discussing contemporary art, followed by whizzing down a humongous tube slide squealing gleefully like a child. But why is this Thursday extra special? Because visitors will be treated to a special FREE reading by artists Steffani Jemison, Jamal Cyrus, and their friends, that’s why!
Jeminson and Cyrus are the organizers of “Museum as Hub: Alpha’s Bet is Not Over Yet,” an exhibition, reading room, and discussion area displaying over 500 issues of independent African American periodicals published between 1902 and 1940. This Thursday, November 10th, Jemison and Cyrus have invited other artists and writers to read and interpret selections from the periodicals. Museum visitors will be able to participate in the performance, suggesting passages from the presented materials for the readings.
FREE admission to one of NYC’s coolest contemporary art museums, plus an awesome reading are enough to get me to the New Museum this Thursday night. I’ll check out the performance at 7pm, then slide on through the rest of the museum to check out the art. You should, too– there aren’t many places in New York that promise access to rare publications and playgrounds for adults.
