Instant Watcher: Be a More Efficient Media Consumer
The sheer amount of media available stresses me out. It may not seem as big of a life issue as paying my rent, etc., but it is a very real stress in my life. I have so many shows and movies on my “to watch” list that I am overwhelmed. As a self-proclaimed pop culture aficionado, this is a valid concern for me. Can you believe that I haven’t watched any of The X-Files or Twin Peaks? I keep meaning to watch The Bourne Identity movies but they keep slipping through my grasp. Not to even mention my dirtiest little secret: I haven’t seen every episode of the original Twilight Zone.
In a world where Netflix Instant makes most things a remote click away, many of my to-watch list is within my reach. However, when I do sit down to watch something, I get so overwhelmed with my choices, I usually just panic and watch Arrested Development for like the hundredth time. That’s not a bad thing, but I want to make sure I am taking in all the great movies and tv. My livelihood depends on it!
Thank goodness someone recommended Instant Watcher to me. It’s a non-affiliated website that is a companion to Netflix. The site organizes the movies into categories way better than the Netflix site ever can. The sub-genre listings are great (I just don’t just want a documentary, I want a rockumentary!) The most helpful feature of the site is that it indicates what titles are new to the Instant Watch library and which titles will soon expire from the site, helping to prioritize what to watch. In addition, it lists what the popular titles other people are adding so you can keep track of what’s trending.
Best thing of all, the site is FREE. There is an option for a premium account in which you can link to your existing Netflix account, but it’s not essential to better organize your viewing. If you’ll excuse me, I have to mark my calendar to watch the double-Cory classic License to Drive when it is available on February 1. For now, I’m going to watch You Got Served before it expires on November 30.
