Broke-Ass Kitchen: White Chocolate Peppermint Cookie Bark
Ahh the holidays. A special time of year for having internal melt-downs about how you’ll afford all of the presents you have to buy and wonder why the hell your parents had to give you so many damn siblings. Thankfully the struggling economy of recent years has made appreciating homemade gifts for more than just grandparents and mothers of preschoolers! Give a little box of the cookies below and people will think you’re thrifty and creative, and if you’re lucky, that you actually care.
Broke-Ass Kitchen: White Chocolate Peppermint Cookie Bark
Ingredients: 1 roll of sugar cookie dough (this is one of the rare times I will suggest you get Semi-Homemade on this only because it’s the holidays and you are busy, but if you’d like to make your own, check out a recipe here), 4 unwrapped peppermint candy canes, 1 bag of white chocolate chips.
Cost: Around $5
Time: Around 15 minutes
Soundtrack: Ella Wishes You a Swingin’ Christmas (also: The Drums’ “Money”)
The plan: Preheat your oven according to the cookie package’s directions, then roll out the sugar dough on a large cooking sheet as if you’re making a rectangular pizza. Cover with white chocolate chips, then crush up the candy cane and sprinkle that on top. Bake according to the package and then once baked and cooled, cut up into square bars. Voila! You just made your coworkers look like assholes for buying something for your boss at a store.
