FREE Vocal Performance: NYFOS@Julliard
Broadway shows, in case you didn’t know, are very expensive. And while it’s very impressive to see live musical theater, it’s not always worth the hefty price tag. Thankfully, on occasion, you get events put on by the New York Festival of Song that showcase Broadway caliber talent for FREE.
From their website, NYFOS presents shows that are “intimate, original ensemble song programs consisting almost exclusively of rarely-heard songs of all kinds, from Debussy to doo-wop, lieder to latin jazz, Josquin to just-written.” These songs are compiled thematically and are then given a story arc. Typically, these shows cost a crap load of money. However, tonight at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Lincoln Center, NYFOS collaborates with The Julliard School (NYFOS@Julliard) for “Invitation to the Dance: Songs About Dancing and Songs with Dancing.” It’s the same type of show NYFOS does, but with students… so it’s FREE… but still damn good. It is Julliard.
