Ticket Giveaway: SPANYC with Rebeca Vallejo & Mar Sala Band @ Drom
When one thinks of Spanish music, images of flamenco dancers, lacey fans and other exotic imagery come to mind. Well obviously the genre spans far beyond cliché, especially when filtered through the modern music scene of New York.
Proving what traditional Spanish music can sound like when filtered through a modern lens, the two artists: Rebeca Vallejo and Mar Salá Band will be playing a double-bill this Friday as the SPANYC: Spain Meets NYC – One Mother Country – Two Different Sounds.
Rebeca Vallejo, is a versatile Spanish jazz vocalist. A former flamenco performer in Madrid, she combined her love of jazz and Brazilian music and has performed all over the world. After moving to New York, she honed her skills at jazz clubs all over the city and will be performing songs off her new album.
Also performing is the Mar Salá Band helmed by Marta Hernández. A mix of rumba flamenca, Brazilian rhythms and Spanish pop – Mar Salá Band is a cross between the flamenco air of Seville and the eclectic sounds of New York City.
So if you’re looking to show off to your date just how cultured you are, or want to catch two world-renowned acts, we’re giving away two tickets to Friday night’s show. Enter to win by emailing contests@brokeassstuart.com with “SPA NYC” in the subject line. Winner will be randomly selected Thursday, so be sure to email by Wednesday night! We’ll email you back if you’ve won. (And we’ll also probably add you to our mailing list unless you specifically ask us not to.)
