The Skint’s Second Annual Bastille Day Bash
I had no clue what the Bastille Day was about until the good folks at The Skint provided me with the following info:
Here’s what Bastille Day means to the French: civic pride, national celebrations, a commemoration of the storming of the Bastille and the rise of the modern French nation as we know it.
Nice. But what does any of that have to do with you or me? Once again, those hard working guys at The Skint tell us what it means:
Here’s what Bastille Day means to you: French-inflected debauchery at Dekalb Market, brought to you by The Skint, NY’s best guide to living high on the cheap. That’s not to say you can’t also bring a sense of French civic pride, you’ll just have to squeeze in between the can can dancers, the baguette-eating contest, and the sweet live music. C’est bon? C’est bon.
In other words, you’ll be serenaded with live music and dancing by The Hot Sardines, you’ll be able to witness a burlesque show by the Love Show and you’ll listen to Pete Lanctot play his Stroh Violin. The Baguette-Eating contest will also provide some lively entertainment for those of you who like to watch strangers stuff their face. (That’s a weird fetish that doesn’t seem to exist in third-world countries.)
If the food and beer vendors get you too drunk to remember anything, don’t worry. There’s going to be a photo booth available, and it’s going to be stocked with berets and scarves so you can take funny pictures.
Doors will open at 6pm at the Dekalb Market this Saturday, July 14. So if you happen to escape Jason’s clutches on Friday the 13th, I suggest parading around as a Frenchmen the following as a celebration.
