BAS Pride 2015: The Q-Sides Opening Night Party! (6/5)

Every once in a while you get the chance to be part of something beyond cool. The Q-Sides, a joint project by Vero Majano, Kari Orvik and DJ Brown Amy, is this for me. It’s the kind of project that makes you feel like the city we love, the gente we love and the queerness of it all that we love is still a strong, fierce force that is here to stay.

“The Q-Sides is a photography exhibition that re-imagines queerness within lowrider culture through a re-staging and re-interpretation of the East Side Story LP album covers, Volumes 1-12.” This project was a labour of love and devotion on the part of the amazing women behind it and pulled together a gorgeous cast of local queer Latino all-stars. Seriously, they could have called this The Brown and the Beautiful.
Somehow or another this feo hack made the cut, but I am so grateful to have had the opportunity of donning some sharp threads and sitting pretty like a legit ruca on a lowrider next to my bombshell foto partner, Natalie Gochez.
Like Macho Menos, the Friday opening reception is part of the 2015 National Queer Arts Festival and will also feature a screening of Dino Dinco’s Homeboy which explores the lives of gay men in L.A. who are former gang members.

DJ Daniela of Xica Soul will be manning the decks and all the cars featured in the shoots will be on hand at a car show outside the gallery. AND, the official after party is at the original Puerto Alegre a block down Bryant which is way better than the Valencia Street one and will be featuring commemorative Q-Side-ritas
Keep it low and slow carnal.
