The Absolute Best Mother’s Day Brunch Spots In NYC

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and NYC is the place to be if you’re looking to spoil the woman that pushed you out of her body.

She did that, you know…or you were CUT OUT of her. Either way, she deserves some bottomless mimosas or ridiculous bloody mary’s, okay? Get on it, child. Luckily, we here at Broke-Ass Stuart have got you covered, so you don’t look like a terrible kid. Aren’t we great!? Here are some amazing places to take your Mom in The Big Apple this weekend.

                                  Vegetarian Chicken & Waffles?

Sweet Chick – LES Manhattan

178 Ludlow St, New York, NY 10002

Southern style brunch in the lower east side of Manhattan? Yup, you read that correctly. Sweet Chick does southern grub with a little NYC twist very well. Examples such as a “Smoked Shredded Chicken Eggs Benedict” or a “Carolina Spice Rubbed Smoked Pork Hash” should tell you what to expect here. It’s a great southern twist on brunch in Manhattan. I think I may need a new belt after just writing that, though.

                                 Hello, New Orleans

Infirmary NYC – UES Manhattan

1720 2nd Ave, New York, NY, 10128

We’re keeping it southern and taking it to the other side of Manhattan with this one. In the heart of the upper east side lies the cajun, New Orleans eatery “Infirmary NYC“. This place is straight out of New Orleans and if the “Smoked Crawfish Benedict” doesn’t get your juices flowing, you can keep it simple with a “BLT Po’ Boy” on fresh New Orleans french bread. Combine that with the owners’ southern charm and an expansive bar for one hell of a fine Mother’s Day brunch experience. Tell James, one of the co-owners, we said hello. His southern charm alone may just sweep mom right off her feet. Sorry, Dad.

                                             Bacon. Bloody. Mary.

Cookshop in Greenwich Village

156 Tenth Avenue at 20th Street, New York, NY, 10011

Is Mom a fan of the Bloody Mary? Well, if she is, Cookshop is the place to be. It’s a great little spot, just squeezing into Chelsea, that is very well known for it’s Bloody Mary’s. My recommendation, because I love bacon, is the BLT Bloody Mary. It’s infused with real bacon, garnished with bacon and features bacon vodka. Did I mention a shit load of bacon? The food is top notch, serving your standard American brunch favorites, but this one is all about the bloodies. Added bonus: It’s right by The Highline so you can walk the booze off, puke in a beautiful park and see some great views of Manhattan.

Don’t Be Afraid Of Vegan Brunch!

VSPOT in St. Marks

12 St Marks Pl, New York, NY 10003

Did Mom grow up in the 70’s and experience Woodstock firsthand? Does she have drug fueled groupie stories that she’s afraid to tell you? She’ll probably love St. Marks if she does and, if she’s not a meat lover, this is an absolute must. VSPOT is a vegan (sit back down and hear me out!) joint, smack in the middle of St. Marks, that boasts a great meatless brunch menu. You can get yourself hopped up on the organic mimosas and grub on some Sweet Crepes or the best damn meatless tacos I’ve ever had. Give em a shot, you fucking babies! It’s just vegetables!

                                          We Need A Moment Alone

Dudley’s  – LES Manhattan

85 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002

Rounding out our little brunch list, we’re taking you to the Australian gem: Dudley’s. We come full circle back to the LES with one hell of a menu. Dudley’s is a great little joint that boasts a huge brunch menu with a lot of variety. You can salivate over Prime Rib & Eggs, take down a “Big Breakie” (Australian Breakfast), keep it casual with a Mushroom Benedict or just say “Fuck it!” and clog up those arteries with a monstrous Australian Bacon Cheeseburger. There’s healthy stuff too but I’m just gonna sit here and fantasize about sugar and cream and bacon a cheese. I need a moment alone, please.

We’re done! You’ve taken this culinary Tour De Brunch with me and now you need to take it with your Mom. Go! Go right now! Stop reading and start brunching!

Happy Mother’s Day from NYC!
