FREE Food, Pigskin and Pin-Ups All Day
As someone who normally avoids football at all costs, but also has a secret love of hot wings, the Super Bowl is a conflicting event for me. I enjoy the festive atmosphere and flowing beer but not so much the fist pumping and sporadic yelling. But the Who is playing halftime and there’s sure to be a bevy of dips, so I say bring it on. There’s numerous events going on all over the city with free food and drink specials galore. So bandwagon, consider yourself officially jumped on.
Galapagos Pre-Show
While I doubt Pete Townsend won’t be treating us to a half-time nip slip, you can still enjoy some decolletage provided by the lovely ladies of Sugar Shack Burlesque at Galapagos Art Space. They’ll be joined by Brooklyn’s Peculiar Gentlemen pulling hosting duties, and there will be plenty of artery clogging appe-teasers before the Big Game. Doors open at 3:30, admission is free.

Fort Defiance New Orleans Party
I may not be a Saints fan, but I am definitely a fan of Southern-style food. Owner and New Orleans native, St.John Frizell is turning his Red Hook spot, Fort Defiance, into an old fashioned New Orleans themed party. So expect plenty of fried catfish, hurricanes (not the malt liquor) and jello shots. It’s like Mardi Gras minus the drunk frat boys, well there might be some of those too. Local bands will be egging everyone on with Saints Tribute songs and $5 pints of Abita all day.
