Rooftop Films Presents: The Dish and the Spoon Premiere
Now that the weather is more flip-flop friendly, that can only mean one thing…lots of outdoor movies! Kicking off their summer schedule, Rooftop Films will be premiering a series of films this weekend as part of their partnership with SXSW Films. Tonight’s screening is of the film, “The Dish and the Spoon”, featuring indie darling, Greta Gerwing (Hannah Takes the Stairs, The House of the Devil, Greenburg) and British teen newcomer, Olly Alexander.
A departure from her mumblecore background, Gerwig plays the part of a woman scorned, who stumbles upon an unlikely travel partner while she plots revenge against the woman who seduced her husband. Described as a “bleaker Before Sunrise“, it’s nice to see Gerwig dig into some tougher material than her recent role in “Arthur”.
Both Gerwig and filmmaker, Alison Bagnall, will be in attendance for a Q&A session after the screening. I can’t recall any past New York film premieres that involved an open rooftop in the LES and a bring your own blanket policy. Be sure to check out the schedule for more films from SXSW this weekend. And remember, all shows are first come, first served. Tickets are $10 online or at the door.
