Take Action at the Farm Bill Hackathon this Saturday!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

We all know we should try to buy organic, visit our neighborhood’s rooftop farms, and other noble activities, but how many of us actually understand the larger agricultural picture these very small pieces play into? Very few, but mostly because it can be a very big, confusing mess.

Food+Tech Connect and Gojee are going to try to fix this this Saturday by bringing together journalists, technologists, designers, policy makers, food data specialists, and YOU to develop tools and visualizations that help the public better understand how the crux of this agroscene, the Farm Bill, influences what we eat, how much it costs, and how our food is grown.

Over the course of 12 hours, participants will work together to produce tools or graphics that news media and organizations can use to convey the complexities and relevance of the Farm Bill to the public. That means little old you will be creating data that will be useful to higher-ups and lower-downs alike. AND you can call yourself a Hacker!

There will also be informative talks and prizes like dinners at Telepan, Red Rooster Harlem, and Northern Spy Company. Learn more HERE and register at http://farmbillhack.eventbrite.com/

She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
