NYC Weekend Round-Up: Male Beauty Pageant, Fun at Stonewall Inn and Tarot Card Readings in Brooklyn
Start off the first weekend of 2014 with these off-the-wall events!!!
15th Annual Mr. Lower East Side Beauty Pageant at the Cake Shop
For the last 15 years the self-proclaimed Bob Barker of the Lower East Side, Rev Jen Miller, has hosted the Mr. Lower East Side Beauty Pageant. It’s the one night of the year where gender roles are reversed and women objectify men in one of the most bizarre ongoing underground events in New York City.
Speaking of bizarre…
Infamous performance artist and cartoonist, Johnny Bizarre, will be defending his crown as he looks to raise the bar (and possibly drink it) to repeat as 2014 Mr. Lower East Side. Witness a man hammer a nail into his penis, and, if you like it, you can vote for Johnny and help him win back-to-back Mr. Lower East Side titles.
OR
You can compete against him by signing up to participate in the pageant yourself. Just show up at the Cake Shop and sign up by 8pm. If I’m not mistaken, you may receive FREE booze for participation. Get weird!

Stonewall Divas: Four Bottoms and a Bitch
If you haven’t had enough fun ogling and demeaning men as they voluntarily embarrass themselves for you, well, then, you could head on over to the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street for Stonewall Divas: Four Bottoms and a Bitch.
Get ready for some amazing tunes to be sung and provocatively danced to, while half-naked men run around causing havoc all in an attempt to carry out the mischievousness of your host, Lavinia Draper. The Four Bottoms—comprised of Anthony Fett, John Raymond Barker, Tre’ Ambrosia and our very own Freddie Cosmo—provide the fun and entertaining eccentricities for your Friday night. Oh, and if you hear the name Lawrence being yelled all night, it’s just the DJ.

House of Screwball presents: Tarot Society at Body Actualized Center
Finally, if you’re curious about what 2014 has in store for you then head on over to the Tarot Society’s new home at the Body Actualized Center in Bushwick.
I’m told that this event will be like a “bazaar of tarot readers, palm readers and astrology readers on pillows and rugs with warm wood floors.” Good. The weather app on my phone says it’s going to be cold this weekend. So warm up and find out what the stars have in store for you.
Your hostess, Darcey Leonard, will be reading palms as her husband, DJ Sex Libris, handles the sound waves by providing the perfect ambiance of spacey jams to put you at ease.
All readings are donation based ($5-$25 suggestion), but no one is turned away because a lack of funds. Also, all levels of tarot readers are encouraged to attend if you’d like to practice your abilities.
