After pouring delicious beers for 11 years, San Francisco’s Black Hammer Brewing has announced it’s closing its doors forever. Black Hammer Brewing on Bryant Street’s final day of serving will be April 3rd, 2026.

Black Hammer Brewing was a true San Franciscan creation, through and through. Owners Jim “Hammer’ Furman and Kevin Jackey proudly referred to Black Hammer as the only ‘Burner Brewery’ in the world. And they ran Black Hammer with a lot of creativity and a steadfast principle of ‘radical inclusivity’ along with just, ‘keeping it weird’.

Black Hammer was always down to participate in community functions, whether it was bar crawls, dance parties, fundraisers to help someone out, or being named in BrokeAssStuart’s SF Beer Passports each year. The SOMA taproom always had fun local art on the walls, hosted performers, DJs, trivia, and plenty of friendly local punters on the stools.

They had artful can designs and wonderful glassware (which you should go buy while you can) they took the time and investment to match brews with appropriate, curated glassware, which is often overlooked in American Brewing.

Black Hammer always had super fun can designs and branding.

I spent many an afternoon drinking their ice-cold Helles or California-style pale ales, or trying whatever fun creation the Black Hammer Brewers had come up with that month at the Bavarian-inspired taproom Willkommen in Duboce Triangle. Munching delicious Rosemunde sausages with gobs of hot mustard and delightfully pickled root vegetables, but Willkommen sadly closed its doors too, this past fall, forever.

It’s rough out there for a brewery; the boom times of the 2010s have passed, and this decade, which began with a pandemic, has claimed many, many incredible breweries.

If you’d like to celebrate Black Hammer, you should visit them at 544 Bryant Street in the next couple of weeks! They will be having events, beer discounts, and lots of stories and good times until they shutter.

Co-Founders Jim Furman and Kevin Jackey wrote this message on social media this week:

“It is with full hearts and raised glasses that Black Hammer Brewing Company announces it will officially cease operations at the close of business on April 3, 2026.

To give the brewery the send-off it deserves, the team will host a final event on April 3rd, 2026. Fans are encouraged to come by in the next few weeks to enjoy their favorite pints one last time, share stories, and take advantage of final discounts:

• We’re rolling back our beer pricing to when we opened in August 2015 - all brews are $7

• Growler’s (the mascot) 13th Birthday Party on Friday March 20th 3pm-7pm - bring your four legged friends

• Our Final Safety 3rd DJ/Burning Man Party on Friday March 27th from 7pm - Close, wear your Playa best, shake your booty to the beats

• April 3rd End of an Era Party featuring $5 pints all day and night

• 50% off all branded merchandise and glassware.

• Growler Pals members get their benefits every day until we close

• Half-price beers for everyone who has ever been a part of the Black Hammer team

Over the past 11 years, it’s been an honor to share our ales and lagers with our community and to gather so many remarkable people—neighbors, organizers, artists, caretakers, makers, dreamers, and everyone in between.

If Black Hammer has stood for anything, it’s kindness, inclusivity, and love. We hope our beer helped spark connection and peace wherever it was poured. We’ll miss you deeply and wish you all the best in the years ahead.”
