You guys, I found a new love and her name is… Indoor Bouldering. I love the way it keeps my mind and body occupied as I solve the physical and mental puzzles that stretch up toward the ceiling. It’s engaging and there’s no room to think about anything else while climbing. It’s exactly what I need in my life. Besides climbing, here’s what else I’m most excited about for the week of 2/27…

Tuesday, 2/27

Squid w/ Water From Your Eyes2/27 | The Regency Ballroom | 1300 Van Ness Ave, SF | 8 p.m. | $22-$34.50, All ages

Squid songs are constantly in a state of flux, setting up intensely rhythmic grooves with lean riffs or phrases that unravel into glorious mayhem and carefully orchestrated meltdowns. In spite of the dystopian tensions at play, their songs are simultaneously thrillingly idiosyncratic and infectiously catchy.

“Sisters with Transistors” tells the remarkable untold story of electronic music’s female pioneers, composers who embraced machines and their liberating technologies to utterly transform how we produce and listen to music today.

This event showcases some of the Bay Area’s most prominent new Hip Hop and Rap artists, who will perform original songs and creative lyrics to the phattest beats and grooves produced by the Bay’s hottest producers and track writers.

Lukas Nelson knows all about legacies, indeed he’s been hard at work carving his own for most of his young, eventful life. Balancing his work as front man of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real with their steady gig as Neil Young’s studio and touring band — and of course, the never-ending road alongside his father in Willie Nelson & Family, Lukas has sharpened the edges of his singular sound into uncharted territory.

One of Collie’s first major gigs was working with recording star Shaggy on the single “Mad Mad World” from Shaggy’s new album at the time entitled Intoxication, which was released in 2007. That was the same year Collie released his self-titled debut album with Sony Music with tracks such as ‘Come Around’ and ‘Blind To You’.

From choosing a name that makes them sound like some sort of urban public works department to their music itself, Richmond, Virginia’s Municipal Waste openly bow down to the memory of ’80s thrash metal and crossover decades after, and a few hundred miles away from, the original movement’s heyday in New York City.
