If putting on chintzy rhinestones and high heels, and crying by yourself to “9 to 5” didn’t feel like sufficient enough mourning for Dolly, then boy do I have an event for you!
Today the city of San Francisco announced Dolly Day, a free, public celebration of life honoring the music, generosity, and spirit of Dolly Parton. It’s all going down on Friday, September 25, from 12pm to 3PM in Union Square. The event is totally free and not ticket or registration is required.
"Dolly spent her life giving joy to people through her music and philanthropy. She is truly one of the most inspiring and universally-loved figures of our time," said event organizer Matt "Haze" Kaftor of Gold Digger Records. "Dolly Day isn't about mourning. It's about coming together to celebrate everything she gave us, loudly and proudly, the way she'd want it."
