Hip Hop Fairyland: A Celebration of Music & Community

This Sunday, September 24th, Oakland’s beloved Fairyland will host “Hip Hop Fairyland & the Healthy Dragon” bringing together the East Bay’s love for hip hop and community. Celebrate 50 golden years of hip hop at this special event. It’s packed with local legends such as interactive workshops and performances by AeroSoul Art, Today’s Future Sound, The People’s Conservatory, RapForce Academy, HipHop Scholastics and Grammy award winners The Alphabet Rockers. This event is a collaboration between The City of Oakland, Children’s Fairyland, and HipHop Scholastics.

How Hip Hop Fairyland is Giving Back to The Community During The Event

While i might be most excited about the beat-making workshop with DJ Rhyming and the hip hop performances, the best part about this event is that Hip Hop Fairyland is a true marriage between music and community. While the performances are happening, there will be partners who will be reaching out to community about wellness programs all while there are local legends bringing workshops and music to attendees.

In addition to the performances, the event is expected to have health and wellness partners on board. These partners include the Roots Clinic, Ace Kids Golf, West Oakland Health Care Center, Alameda Public Health Department, and the Oakland Unified School District Community Schools.

If the workshops and performances don’t get you hyped up, you might find delight in children’s book readings of “The Dentist and the Fire Breathing Dragon,” authored by Oakland-born Hip Hop Artist Sunspot Jonz and presented by the acclaimed artist and puppeteer, Emily Butterfly.

Oakland’s mayor, Sheng Thao, will be in attendance at the event honoring community leaders including Dr. Noha Aboelata of Roots Clinic, Del the Funky Homosapien, Jav the Dentist and more within our local hip hop community.
