Photo of Mark E. Sackett from the Box SF Events Instagram

UPDATE: On Wednesday Sackett posted on Instagram that the attacker used a 6 inch switchblade that cut through Sackett’s main nerve and two of his main tendons and clear to his Bone on his left wrist. He underwent over five hours of surgery. He still doesn’t know if he’ll have full use of his left hand again.

Let’s start by saying that “Antique Dealer & Artist” is a gross oversimplification of what Mark E. Sackett does. As his website points out, Sackett has been a “Graphic Designer/Director/Producer for over 38 years with more than 1500 awards to his credit”. The “antique dealer” part stems from the fact that one of his art spaces, The Box SF, houses the largest antiquarian paper and advertising store in the United States. So, “Antique Dealer & Artist” is adequate enough for a headline.

Now that we got that out of the way, according to his Instagram and Twitter, Sackett was attacked Tuesday morning by a “crazy”. At the time of the instagram posting, Sackett was “awaiting a surgical team to evaluate if this hit the bone” the photo shows a pretty bad gash that we can only assume is the knife wound which “cut through some tendons”.

You can view the Instagram post right here (warning it’s a little ghastly).

Luckily the man who allegedly attacked him is now in custody and, according to the Instagram post is “being charged with assault with a deadly weapon.”

I’ve reached out to Sackett for more details and will update this article once we have them.

BUT….

In the post Sackett notes that The Box SF is preparing for their huge art fair this weekend that will help artists impacted by the pandemic, and he asks folks to help spread the word. So that’s exactly what I’m gonna do. All the info is below:
