It’s nearly here – the day we honor the dead. To mark it, our friends at SOMArts have once again curated a timely portrait of collective grief and remembrance with their 2025 Día de Los Muertos show, titled “We Love You.”
If you missed the opening, there’s still time to catch the show, which is on view through November 7th.
GALLERY HOURS
Thursday, 3:00–7:00 PM
Friday, 12:00–7:00 PM
Saturday–Sunday, 12:00–5:00 PM
The curators share, “This exhibition is love and solidarity in action for those living through an unprecedented challenge to their rights, bodily autonomy, access to safe medical care, and even sports.” It’s an apt description of what many Bay Area folks are dealing with, and the best way to process these tough times is through communal experiences like viewing art.

Last year’s show was all about Palestine. It was an emotionally intense and absolutely beautiful experience, and this year is equally tender and timely. And, the event organizers explain, “In keeping with the tradition of Día de Los Muertos, altars dedicated to loved ones who have passed will be on view.”
According to Maria Jenson, SOMArts’ Creative & Executive Director, the organization provides “a vessel for these artists whose expression demands justice and reimagines what freedom looks like.” It’s hard to articulate just how many of these freedoms we once took for granted have been stripped away, and the artists recognize that in their ofrendas and works.

Jenson shares, “We are honored to amplify the voices of self-identified women, trans, and gender-nonconforming artists who are bravely sharing their stories at a time when they are desperately fighting for their rights–this is advocacy, testimony, a call to action.”
As with prior years, the exhibition is coupled with powerful performances. Mark your calendars, because the exhibition culminates with a tender and heartfelt Day of the Dead drag show curated by Per Sia, a dedicated educator and one of San Francisco’s most beloved drag icons.

The closing reception is on Friday, November 7, 6–9 PM. Tickets to the closing reception are $15, youth under 16 are free; no one turned away for lack of funds.
According to the organizers, “Featuring self-identified women, trans, and gender nonconforming artists, We Love You cultivates a safe and welcoming environment where altars serve as a response to the challenges posed by the current administration.”
