I’m not sure if you’ve been paying attention, but the Fox Theater in Oakland has an incredible lineup this spring and summer! So far this year they’ve had such stellar shows as Cat Power, Atmosphere, Jason Bell and Dark Star Orchestra, just to name a few. But they still have a shit ton more fantastic concerts for the rest of the year.
Just check out this calendar:
Here are some of the shows I’m most excited about:
Good Kid
Blending the punchy riffs of J-rock, the playfulness of indie rock, and the raw edge of pop-punk, Good Kid has crafted a sound that’s impossible not to move to.
May 6th – Good Kid w/ INOHA
The Midnight
Don’t say The Midnight didn’t warn you. After teasing fans on social media with ominous imagery, snippets of lush keyboard washes, and cryptic references to classic science fiction stories, the band that emerged over a decade ago out of Los Angeles returns with Syndicate.
May 14th – The Midnight w/ New Constellations
DaBoyDame & Friends w/ Keyshia Cole, Plies, and Special Guests
Headlined by DaBoyDame and featuring special guests including Keyshia Cole and Plies, this all-ages show brings together a dynamic mix of hip-hop and R&B for one high-energy evening.
Buju Banton & Stephen Marley
Buju Banton is unequivocally one of the world’s greatest dancehall/reggae artists. This living legend is a Grammy winner, abolitionist and voice for oppressed people around the world.
Stephen Marley is an eight-time GRAMMY Award–winning recording artist, singer, songwriter, musician, and producer. His career includes collaborations with artists such as Lauryn Hill, Pitbull, Shaggy, Nas, and Erykah Badu, as well as extensive work alongside his family.
June 20th – Buju Banton & Stephen Marley
Marcus King Band
The Marcus King Band is a South Carolina-formed rock/soul group led by virtuosic singer-guitarist Marcus King. Known for blending Southern rock, blues, and funk, they are renowned for high-energy live shows and tight musicianship. Following acclaimed albums like Carolina Confessions, the band has reunited for the new album Darling Blue and the tour to go along with it.
July 7th – Marcus King Band w/ Penelope Road
Poppy
An insatiably inventive drive has fueled Poppy’s surrealistic rise through countless corners of the arts and music worlds, with each of her many projects so far revealing a different glimpse of a true visionary unconcerned with genre, unimpressed by convention, and forever defying expectations.
August 5th – Poppy w/ LANDMVRKS and Thousand Below
Passion Pit
Michael Angelakos started Passion Pit in college as nothing more than a way to make his friends dance. Since then the band has been many things including a festival darling and 2x platinum selling act. The band is currently on tour, bringing some of that good 2010s feeling back to the Bay Area.
August 16th – Passion Pit
