100% of proceeds go to Minnesota Community Action Network.
Popular San Francisco eatery Devil’s Teeth Bakery is whipping up resistance to Trump’s violent anti-immigration crusade, and you can help. Cue “Cookie Time” from Troop Beverly Hills.
The bakery is churning out shortbread cookies counter-iced with indisputable slogans like, “Fuck ICE.” Founder and owner of Devil’s Teeth Hilary Passman had, like many people, grown tired of feeling helpless. After the murders of mother and poet Renée Good and Registered Nurse Alex Pretti, Passman got an idea. Rather than dwell, the baker resolved to do her best with what she has, and that’s a lot of dough—literally. Passman is giving 100% of the proceeds these seditious sweets bring in to advocacy group conglomerate Minnesota Community Action Network.
Minnesota Community Action Network (MCAN) connects over a thousand advocacy groups that assist people who are food and housing insecure. ICE and the Trump administration is targeting people in poverty with raids on poor neighborhoods and elimination of assistance programs. So many nonprofits and community resources desperately need funds for supplies and staffing. But pooling finances is only a stopgap.
Founded in 2011, Devil's Teeth Bakery operates locations in the Outer Richmond, Outer Sunset, and Financial Districts. Hilary Passman is proud to devote her bakery to helping those impacted by ICE raids and attacks. She isn’t doing anything incendiary. These cookies aren’t in the shape of Trump’s decapitated head (although that would be metal). What she is saying is just common sense.
“I don’t think these anti-immigration sweeps should be happening,” Passman told KTVU. “I don’t think anybody should be murdered in broad daylight. I just think it’s all pretty terrible.”
If you build it, they will come

You know you made it when you attract haters online. At least two Yelp reviewers endeavored to shame the bakery for taking a stand against ICE. One customer writes, “Stay out of politics and stick to baking cookies.” Another writes that after seeing the anti-ICE cookies, they will no longer be a customer. Supporters of ICE and Trump soon took to Instagram, accusing Hilary Passman of profiting off Renée Good’s and Alex Pretti’s deaths. One user tagged FBI Director Kash Patel while accusing Governor Gavin Newsom of money laundering.
Passman remains undeterred by these comments, remarking, "I don’t care. Everyone’s allowed to have their opinions, and I’m allowed to have mine and mine is, ‘fuck ICE.'”
San Francisco is a sanctuary city with numerous thriving immigrant communities and a plethora of progressive voters. It comes as no surprise that the cookies, which retail for $3.50 each, are flying off the rack, with an average of 300 sold daily. One variety is round with “ICE” overlain by a “prohibited” symbol (⊘). A cordiform one says, straight from the heart, “Fuck ICE.”
“They usually are gone within an hour,” remarked a counter clerk at the Noriega Street location, who asked to remain anonymous.
Fortunately, DevilsTeethBakingCompany.com does offer a special advance order option, asking that orders be submitted two business days in advance, Monday through Thursday only.
Whitney Spence, a regular customer who jumped at the chance to participate in the fundraiser, declared, “Tastes like democracy.”
"I’m happy to support businesses that say ‘hey, you are harming the people of our community,'” she added.
The cookies have also found immense favor with Joel Rosenthal, a frequent customer who personally resonated with Devil's Teeth Bakery’s activism.
"I was a long-time VA employee. That was my career, so that made it much more personal for me [when Alex Pretti was killed]," he said. “[Selling these cookies] will bring me back just that much more to this business.”
She also announced that she has no plans to quit and added, "We’re going to keep doing this as long as ICE is killing people.”
