According to a Truth Social post from President Donald Trump, the deployment of federal officers to San Francisco is being called off. San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie posted a statement confirming the reversal.

For the time being, it appears a combination of Bay Area politicians (SF Mayor Lurie), tech billionaires ( Jensen Huang, Marc Benioff), and I like to think, THE MIGHT of peaceful protesters…has swayed the President from violating California’s rights, and sending Federal agents and troops into San Francisco.
Mayor Daniel Lurie said Trump called him last night to discuss the coming crackdown by federal law enforcement:
“I told him the same thing I told our residents: San Francisco is on the rise. Visitors are coming back, buildings are getting leased and purchased, and workers are coming back to the office,” the mayor said in his statement.
SF Mayor Daniel Lurie statement via Instagram:

“In that conversation, the president told me clearly that he was calling off any plans for a federal deployment in San Francisco,” Lurie said in a statement. “Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem reaffirmed that direction in our conversation this morning.”

A group of federal agents had been ordered to use a Coast Guard base off the coast of Alameda Island and the city of Oakland as a base of operation, where protestors formed a human picket line, peacefully blocking the bridge.
Near dawn, on Thursday morning (10/23/25) Federal agents began attempting to cross a bridge between the small, federally controlled island in the San Francisco Bay and into Alameda County, Oakland, where they were met with a wall of peaceful, human picketers.
ICE and CBP agents began firing flash bang grenades at point-blank range into a picket line of interfaith leaders and community members on the bridge. Two people were injured, one being a member of the clergy.
You can read our coverage of that here:
The mayors of Oakland and San Jose reportedly did not receive a call from the Trump Administration.
For the time being, Trump has backed down. We will see how long that lasts.
Stay tuned.
