Women’s travel: Ok, we hate to be the ones to tell you, but going out-of-town for a bachelorette break can never be cheap cheap. There’s transport and accommodation to book. There are L-plates/wacky wedding veils to be bought (and, regretfully, worn). There are shots to be drunk. Many shots.
So, it’s a given you’ll have to set some money aside for sending yourself off to wife-dom in style. There are, however, a few ways you can save once you’re there. See our suggestions below…
Classic: Las Vegas, Nevada
It’s a classic for good reason: with its no-holds-barred excess and anything-goes atmosphere, Las Vegas is the place to kiss goodbye to your singledom with a bang. And you can do it for less dollars if you split a suite between your group and hold your own suite party. Pick a hotel with a lively pool scene for when you do venture outdoors – Mandalay Bay’s is laid out like a beach and comes complete with cocktail bars and a wave machine.
Vintage: New York, New York
With its explosion of cool, speakeasy-style underground bars in the past few years, New York is ideal for the vintage-lovin’ broke-ass’s bachelorette party. No need for expensive club entries with bars selling watered-down booze here: a few hits of the good stuff from high-quality secret bars like PDT and Milk & Honey will put your party in fine spirits.
Ski: Breckenridge, Colorado
If skiing and partying are your things, then Breckenridge is ideal for your last hurrah. Hit the slopes in the morning, chill at one of the resort’s many mountain spas in the afternoon then dance the night away after dark. The strip of bars and clubs along Main St. offer fun and drinks deals a-plenty for bachelorettes happy to get down with a college crowd.
Food: New Orleans, Louisiana
Does your mouth water at the mention of French-Creole and Cajun cooking? Hankering for your next po’boy fix? Throw out the bride-to-be diet and head south to NoLa for a lip-smacking bachelorette break. French Quarter restaurants ideal for larger groups include the legendary Antoine’s, which has 15 fancy dining rooms plus a bar with a happy hour, and Palace Café’s modern interpretation of the local cuisine on Canal Street.
Party time: Cancun
The only rule with a bachelorette party in Cancun is to avoid it when it’s overrun with spring break-ers: you want your event to feel like the best party in town, thanks very much! Cancun is, obviously, amazingly well set-up to deal with big groups in search of fun: pay an ‘Open Bar’ rate of around $30 for superclubs like Coco Bongo and have all your drinks included, all night.
Water Sports: Aruba
Sun, sea, sand… the Caribbean island of Aruba is a little slice of paradise, with glittering blue bays offering ample opportunity to snorkel, sail and jet-ski at reasonable rates til the sun goes down. Creatures you can spot while snorkelling among the reefs include sea turtles, stingrays and brightly-spotted moray eels, and you can also explore shipwrecks like the famous Antilla.
