Celebrate Australia Day with Ping Pong, Sausage Rolls, and other Weird Australia Related Things

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Australia-day

The history nerd in me wants to think that this is in honor of the Sydney Ducks, SF’s original organized criminals. But it’s not. It’s actually because Jess, one of the people behind American Tripps, is Aussie and Australia Day is the “Down Unda” version of the 4th of July. So yeah, it’s gonna be pretty fucking bad ass. It’s all happening at the Folsom Street Foundry this Saturday.

And guess what? Readers of this site get a $5 discount when they use the code “FriendsOfStuart”. Read below to learn all about this cool event and get your tickets here! The translation from Aussie English to American English is at the very bottom. Aussie Aussie Oy Oy!!

If you happen to be stuck in San Francisco this Australia Day, NO WORRIES MATE — we’re bringing Australia to you! AUSTRALIA DAY MATE:

TRIPLE J’s HOTTEST 100 streamed live from 5pm!
• A big indoor GOON OF FORTUNE!
• Hot SAUSAGE ROLLS and CHEESYMITE SCROLLS!
• LORDE lookalike contest (cuz she’s gonna win the top spot, and you know it, is why)
• *Aussie-Rules* BERLIN-STYLE PING PONG
• Aussie-themed photo ops
• BEER
• Lots more TBA

We’re celebrating in REAL TIME, so though Australia Day is January 26th, we’re starting on Saturday, January 25th, at 4pm. Hottest 100 starts at 5pm, and we go until the finish (and maybe then some).

Pack your thongs and your stubby cooler mate!

(For our American friends, some translations: the Hottest 100 is a radio countdown every Aussie listens and parties to every Australia Day, Goon of Fortune is a fun game played with a Hills Hoist, sausage rolls and cheesymite scrolls are awesome baked Aussie delicacies, Lorde is a pop starlet from NZ, Aussie-Rules Berlin-style ping pong means you run *the other way* around the table, thongs are flip-flops, stubby coolers are can koozies.)
