53RD ANNUAL BIG BOOK SALE

This year’s Big Book Sale will have twice the number of books in Ancient History, Architecture, Art, California & the West, Graphic Novels, Mathematics, Mythology, Nature, Philosophy, Photography, Science, Science Fiction and World History – more than 70 categories in all. Everything drops down to $1 on the last day of the sale.

The Commons on Third Thursdays is a series of FREE family-friendly and inclusive happenings held on four nights, one each month. The events will encompass the linked public spaces in Civic Center Commons: Civic Center Plaza, UN Plaza, and Fulton Street. There will be a stage for live music in each of the three main areas, and food and over-21 beverages will be for-sale by Off The Grid. Monthly LIVE entertainment will be programmed by Another Planet Entertainment, Noise Pop and People in Plazas.

Fresh off the introduction of S.1804, the Medicare for All Act of 2017, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders will address the theme in a public speech hosted by California Nurses Association/NNOC/NNU.

The 5th Annual Peace in the Park celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Summer of Love. Featuring inspirational speakers, live music, poetry, visual artists, Tai Chi, yoga, kids activities, exhibits, and meditation experiences where individuals can explore a variety of ways to unplug, unwind, tune in and connect in peace.

Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal. The disparate group includes a rebel, a, princess, an outcast, a brainiac, and the jock. Each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently — and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.

Leather and fetish players from all over the world converge. Over 200 exhibitor booths showcasing fetish gear and toys. GABI MOSKOWITZ & MIRANDA BERMAN: HOT MESS KITCHEN

Decades ago, every young woman left home knowing how to cook, but now, well, not so much. And while they’re happy times have changed, authors Gabi Moskowitz and Miranda Berman want to save millennials from the perils of takeout and take back the kitchen with their new book, HOT MESS KITCHEN. Snacks will be served!

KARL GEARY: MONTPELIER PARADE

FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA

Francis Ford Coppola is the Academy-Award–winning director of The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and numerous other films. His forthcoming books, Live Cinema and Its Techniques, is an indispensable and entertaining guide to a visionary new form of moviemaking that Coppola believes will become a powerful medium within the larger film industry.

The food industry holds some of the most unique and inspiring stories and farmers, chefs, and food makers are brave, tenacious, and passionate to the ends of the Earth. When you bring them together in one room to share the vignettes of their stories it will be an unforgettable evening. The first annual StorySlam consists of a local food night market with savory and sweet bites, an auction, and the main act: A StorySlam, where an all-star roster of Bay Area food providers will tell their short stories (based on the Salty & Sweet theme).

THE 15TH ANNUAL NEW YORK BURLESQUE FESTIVAL TEASER PARTY

the largest and most acclaimed festival of its kind in the world, and has attracted sold-out crowds since it’s premiere in 2003. Four nights of glitter and glamour, with over 120 eye-popping performances from international leading burlesque and variety entertainers at four of NYC’s hottest nightclubs. Bringing together over 2,700 enthusiastic audience members who, in addition to enjoying tassels and tail feathers will be entertained by live music, international DJ’s, variety and circus performers, boylesque, and a burlesque bazaar where you can try on custom corsets, peruse pasties, hair ornaments, vintage dresses, and lingerie!

Between performances of songs from their newest “tropical futurist” psychedelic cumbia album, Abya Yala, the band will discuss living and creating their distinctly Afro-Latinx music in Brooklyn’s ever-evolving landscape.
