How Choose Your Own Adventure Day is Actually Gonna Work

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Hopefully by now you’ve heard that I’m doing a big Choose Your Own Adventure day on Thursday 2/22. It’s going to be so rad! Nobody is doing anything like this.

I’m sure you’re wondering how it’s going to work though so I figured I’d break it down:

How to Play Along:

Follow me on Instagram I’ll using the “poll” option in Instagram stories. Each poll will be active for 30 minutes, to ensure your vote is cast, be sure to closely follow along starting at 12pm PST. All comments and DMs are welcome! I want to hear from you! Be sure to follow the adventure to the end to find out where I’ll be hosting his adventure-themed Pop-Up Happy Hour!

A Further Breakdown for Those Unfamiliar with Instagram Stories:

Here’s how it works: there’s a feature on Instagram called Instagram Stories. If you go to someone’s profile you can click on the little circle that is their profile picture and see short vignettes that they create. Sometimes they are just photos, other times they are videos or gifs. Regardless, the story disappears after 24 hours, giving the creator the flexibility to make silly things that don’t have to be perfect. While they copied the concept from Snapchat, Instagram improved on it by including some ingenious ways to embellish, add to, and manipulate the images and videos in order to make them personalized and fun. One of these is the ability to poll your viewers, asking them to choose between two different options, and this is what gave me the idea to turn my Instagram into a Choose Your Own Adventure story for a day.

Here’s a fine example:

Imagine this: I’m leaving my house and I take a photo of the SF skyline and ask “Where should I go, the Ferry Building or Hayes Valley.” After 20 or 30 minutes pass allowing you and everyone else watching to vote, it’s decided that I go to the Ferry Building. On the way though I come across a protest because it’s San Francisco and protesting is what we do best. So then I ask the next question, “Do I check out this protest or continue to the Ferry Building?” And then I once again let the will of the people lead my way.

How frigging cool is that? Just imagine what kind of weird stuff I might get into on Thursday! Can you see why I’m so excited?

So make sure to follow me on Instagram so you can take part!
