FREE OUTDOOR FUN IN NYC THIS WEEKEND

When you’re young, broke and beautiful AND living in one of the most expensive cities in the world it can be hard finding entertainment for free. Lucky for you here’s a list of four events going on around the city this weekend that cost no dinero.

FRIDAY JUNE 8th

BRYANT PARK LATIN FESTIVAL

Fountain Terrace in Bryant Park | 5pm – 10pm

The Bryant Park Latin Festival features live bands performing Latin Jazz, Salsa and Pop music along with Dance instructors providing free lessons in Cha Cha, Boogaloo and Salsa. The Grammy nominated group New Swing Sextet headlines and performs music that captures the excitement and turbulence of 1960’s New York.


SATURDAY JUNE 9th

BOWIE SYMPHONIC

SummerStage, Rumsey Playfield- Central Park|7pm – 10pm (Doors open 6pm)

Whether you love David Bowie and Classical music or just want to expand your musical horizons then this is the show for you. A star-studded orchestra will be performing Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, in full. There will also be a special appearance by the Donny McCaslin Group which performed with Bowie on the album. Bring a folding chair or a blanket and enjoy this musical mash-up.


SATURDAY JUNE 9th

THE GREAT RANDALL’S ISLAND TREASURE HUNT

Randall’s Island Park |10am – 2pm

If you’ve ever wanted to search for buried treasure this is your moment. There is a course for adults and one just for the kids. Learn how to use a map and a compass and explore Randall’s Island. There will be arts and crafts and light refreshments provided.


SUNDAY JUNE 10th

THE 2018 SCANDANAVIAN MUSIC FESTIVAL

Billings Lawn in Fort Tryon Park, Manhattan | 2pm – 3:30pm

This marks the 14th year that the Scandia Symphony has provided a free concert for the residents of New York. Bring a blanket and come enjoy contemporary and traditional compositions and arrangements performed for you on the banks of the Hudson River.


SUNDAY JUNE 10th

FREE KAYAKING AND CANOEING

Hallet’s Cove 31-10 Vernon Blvd, Queens | 1pm – 4 pm

The LIC Community Boathouse is providing free kayaking and canoeing this Sunday on a first come first serve basis. Open to all ages (you can even bring your dog!)
