It’s March– things are finally warming up (and drying up!) in the Bay Area, and the month’s madness is starting up again.  Spend your first day of March at Oakland’s First Fridays or stop by an art gallery opening in San Francisco.  There’s also a Wikipedia-Edit-A-Thon, parties that are raising money for your favorite causes, and tons of other ways to make an impact on the Bay.HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DEMONS

SENATOR WIENER’S EAST ON WEST EXHIBIT
Senator Scott Wiener is hosting a group exhibit of San Francisco Bay Area artists from the Asian diaspora in his office in the State of California Building.  The exhibition features 27 artists who are inspired by their roots in the Far East, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and the Pacific Islands.

VSCO MICRO GALLERY
Stop by the VSCO HQ in Oakland for the opening of The Hair Appointment, a new exhibition of work from creators Josef Adamu and Jeremy Rodney-Hall.  The artists explore the symbolic power of hair styling through their photography.  There will be light bites and drinks for the VSCO community at the opening.

BORDER COLLECTIVE POP-UP EXHIBIT

BETWEEN BEAUTY & HORROR
Oakland-based artist Leila Weefur and art critic Elena Gross will be doing a lecture-performance and book release in conjunction with Weefur’s show at Aggregate Space Gallery. Her show Between Beauty & Horror explores the dichotomy between these two concepts in the context of the Black experience.  Note: Aggregate Space Gallery has also announced that they are facing displacement due to rising rent and other costs, read more here

Pancakes & Booze Art Show

Local art everywhere! The work of 300 or so local artists adorn the walls of the Mezzanine while the music plays, the bar flows, and a big crowd of punters rub elbows.  This event is usually light-hearted and fun, I mean, there are some 300 artists and their friends there to have a good time. The artwork consists of everything from professional photogs to amateur painters.

ARCHITECTURAL RESEARCH IN THE DIGITAL AGE
This art exhibition examines the digital transformation of architecture (and construction) through prototypes, a VR experience, and research findings from the Swiss University ETH Zurich.  Other technologies like computational design and digital fabrication were also used to construct the experimental buildings in the show.

The Midway opens a new multidisciplinary exhibition Ocean-Bound: Plastic Waste and Why We are Bound to the Health of Our Oceans in partnership with Lonely Whale.  The event will start with a cocktail hour in a gallery sounded by hyperrealistic drawings of the world’s icebergs, inflatable sculptures, and recycled waste sculptures.
