Mid Market Community Benefit District & Partners present the 8th Annual 2 Blocks of Art: Art Walk + Live Mural Painting

The 8th Annual 2 BLOCKS OF ART art walk is on Saturday, May 4th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. New this year, the event has been moved to a weekend afternoon to allow for greater participation and live mural installations. It’s a free event, with 75 artists to 20 locations within two blocks of 6th Street (between Market and Howard). The art walk will feature a range of exhibits and live performances in galleries, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and various other storefronts — even a laundromat.  And with many well-known arts organizations in the area, the event includes beloved galleries and theater:  1AMBindlestiffLittle Raven and SF Camerawork.

Follow a map along 6th Street that brings you in and out of gallery spaces (traditional and not so traditional) to see amazing artworks by local artists and then check out the map of murals along the same corridor at the 8th annual 2 Blocks of Art; happening May 4, 1-5pm, FREE. In addition to exhibitions at the neighborhood’s beloved year-round galleries and theater, event goers will enjoy the murals of 6th Street and two live mural installations. On Stevenson Sly and Chris from Sugabus Media will create a mural in the theme of “people in motion.” Dancers from Alonzo King Lines Ballet Dance Center will perform throughout the afternoon using several of the area’s murals as backdrops.

Character designers Jing Ouyang and Rachel Xin will install a 3D photo booth at (151 6th Street) – a great place to stop after free face painting (for all ages) at Frena Bakery (138 6th Street).

The event also includes the return of “Sketch the Block.” The wildly successful, one-day sketch-con, is back for its 3rd year featuring artists in the fields of visual concept, comic books and video games.
