The Highlights and Lowlights of My 40th Bday Roast

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

What the livestream looked like. Luna Malbroux killed it as the Roast Master for the evening.

Wow…what a night! It’s been a week since Broke-Ass Stuart’s 40th Birthday Roast and I’m just now finally getting this recap together.

I’ve got some bad news and some good news for you. The bad news is that we screwed up and ended up not recording the roast. Ugh…I know, I am SOOOO bummed about it.

The good news though is that nearly half the roasters recorded their bits beforehand, so I have their videos and can share them with you. And thank you to everyone who sent in photos and videos of the night for me to include here!

And, we raised about $3200 for BrokeAssStuart.com and $320 for the The Coalition on Homelessness!

Didn’t get a chance to donate? Help keep BAS alive! Hit up my Venmo or become a Patron. Thank you!!

Before we go any further though I need to give a HUMONGOUS shout out to Jenn Stokes from Stokes Live Entertainment for making this whole thing possible. She’s a fucking magical human person. Also, shout out to the production crew and the Great Northern for helping realize our vision. And major thank you to our sponsors Chameleon Cold-BrewEaze, and Secession Art & Design. And finally the biggest thank you goes out to the roasters and our Roast Master Luna Malbroux.

Now on with the show!

Here’s part of the intro. It’s a clip someone made on twitch. As you can tell, it’s a little odd performing in front of no audience.

Sister Roma

While we don’t have video of it, we thankfully have this photo from Sister Roma’s bit. You can tell the audience is dying!

Peaches Christ

Drag icon, filmmaker and producer Peaches Christ took time to roast a number of other roasters making her bit especially fantastic and venomous!

Supervisor Matt Haney

Matt Haney is  District 6 Supervisor in San Francisco and he surprisingly brought the fire, using my own poetry, amongst many other things, to roast me.

Bitchy Waiter

Bitchy Waiter is a nationally famous blogger and author who has been featured on the Today Show & Dr. Phil. I’m also still stinging from the his bit.

Irene Tu

Stand-up comedian and actor Irene Tu burned me so bad I need aloe vera.

Rebecca’s Cocktail Classes

Part way through the roast my roommate Rebecca from Rebecca’s Cocktail Classes did a quick demo of some great cocktails you can make with Chameleon Cold-Brew. You can see the recipes right here.

Scott Levkoff

Performer and Producer Scott Levkoff brings some hella Grinchy vibes to the roast. Damn!

Stroy Moyd

Comedian, actor and producer Stroy Moyd killed it as usual and I’m still smarting from this roast.

Heather Knight

Heather Knight is a columnist at the SF Chronicle and co-host of the 5th & Mission podcast. Since her bit was done live, we don’t have the whole thing but luckily someone on Twitch made this clip where she talks about what it would be like if I was Mayor.

Kat Robichaud

Kat Robichaud is a singer/songwriter and the co-creator of Misfit Cabaret. She sang a very special rendition of “You’re So Vain” which is incredibly on point.

The Ridiculous Cake!

My incredible finances Kayla got this ridiculous cake for me. Apparently the woman at the cake counter of Safeway blushed when she saw the photo. The digital image was created by Nick James.

And of course the night finished off with Kayla smashing some of it in my face.

Thanks again to all the roasters and everyone who tuned in. This was one of the most special birthdays I’ve ever had. It felt so good to help people laugh after this terrible year.
