Is Your Company Secretly Funding Anti-LGBTQIA+ Hate?

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I’m going to let you in on a little secret; America is a fuckin’ joke, and corporate America is the biggest joke of them all. An example of the type of fuckery that our corporate comedians conjure up as a result of their obsession with watching the world burn for a buck is the corporate interest in the LGBTQIA+ community when June rolls around.

Being selective with the timing of  your support of a marginalized community is pretty shitty, but then supporting the same people that marginalize them is even shittier, and corporate America regularly engages in this type of behavior.

For every pride flag on a major retailer’s storefront there is a large dollar donation to conservative politicians who are trying to strip them of their right to openly exist.

Nearly every big business you can think of has done this.

Local Journalism for Working stiffs

We write for the poets, busboys, and bartenders. We cover workers, not ‘tech’, not the shiny ‘forbes 100 bullshit’. We write about the business on your corner and the beer in your hand. Join the Bay's best newsletter.

You know Bud Light, the transest beer in America according to philosophical scholars like Kid Rock? Anhesuser-Bush, Bud-Light’s parent company, has donated roughly $250,000 to Anti-LGBTGIA+ politicians since January of 2022.

Maybe it’s not as gay as they say…

Do you have cable? If you’re in the Bay Area, there’s a good chance you have Comcast, and since it’s June, Comcast wants you to know it’s gay, despite them pretending to love everything under the rainbow, they’re only after the big gay pot of gold at the end of it. In terms of political donations, Comcast spent over a million dollars funding the campaigns of homophobic candidates.

Not to be outdone by Comcast, AT&T has also spent a ton of money funding the cock suckers who are obsessed with telling you who can and who can’t suck a cock. AT&T spent around 1.4 million filling the coffers of conservatives.

This isn’t limited to just shitty beer and corrupt communication companies. Home Depot, a place that likely benefited from all the LGBTQIA people who poured a ton of money around the region beautifying otherwise unloved homes, is also throwing money behind bigots.

If you want a more comprehensive list of these hypocritical companies that pretend to give a shit about queer struggle while simultaneously making it worse, click here.

I’m not gay or a part of the LGBTQIA+ in any shape, way or form, and I know that if you are, you probably know about the sleight of hand going in corporate America. I know you’re probably sick of hearing about it because it feels discouraging, but I assure you that I’m not trying to rain on your pride parade. These shady capitalist fucks should make you even more prideful.

Let me explain why.

Back in the day, mainstream America ignored the plight of the LGBTQIA+ community. It wasn’t that long ago when same-sex couples couldn’t get married. You fought hard and didn’t back down. Some of you were beaten and harassed. Others were even thrown out by their own families, but that didn’t break their spirits.

Now they can’t ignore you. Remember that, and try to shop at companies that won’t stab you in the back.

Happy Pride.
