Festivals, movies, comedy, and art – literally this week is doing the most! I’ll be checking out a few things including the Barbie movie, and maybe even the Barbie Rave! Imagination, life is our creation! The possibilities for fun feel nearly limitless. Here’s what I’m most excited about for the week of 7/18..

JMS (Jessica Michelle Singleton) is a rising comedy star, best known for her unique style of fast-paced, stream-of-consciousness stand up comedy that combines personal stories with extremely random thoughts and observations from what some people refer to as a hyperactive, dirty and twisted mind.

Tunnel Vision

Tickets are three dollars, about the price of a typical BART fare, and viewers are encouraged to take public transit to the Roxie, which sits conveniently near 16th St. BART.

Self-Help Singh Live

Self-help Singh is the alter ego of international comedian Masood Boomgaard. Self-help Singh, described as a comedic alternative life coach and de-motivational speaker, first appeared to Boomgaard in a vision after he fell and hit his head while rushing to the bathroom in an attempt to outrun the gastric consequences of bad lamb vindaloo. Boomgaard has since been sharing the “common sense wisdom” and de-motivational teachings of Self-help Singh to millions of people on the internet. The Self-help Singh live show is a hilarious yet thought provoking juxtaposition of stand-up comedy, parody and motivational speaking.

Chill Sketching: Learn to Sketch What You See

Sun Ra Arkestra

The enduring legacy of jazz visionary and legendary eccentric Sun Ra is celebrated by this ensemble made up of Arkestra veterans and a younger generation of exploratory musicians led by alto saxophonist Marshall Allen, who has been a fixture of Sun Ra’s bands since 1958. For the first two nights of their week, the band focuses on the more experimental exploratory music from Sun Ra’s songbook.

43rd Annual SF Jewish Film Festival

Founded in 1980, the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival (SFJFF), presented by the Jewish Film Institute (JFI), is the largest and longest-running festival of its kind and a leader in the curation and presentation of new film and media exploring the complexity of Jewish life and identity around the world.
