We’re Throwing One Last Happy Hour at the Uptown!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

On Tuesday, December 12th at 6pm, Bitch Talk Podcast, Broke-Ass Stuart, and Storied: SF present: One Last Happy Hour at the Uptown!

Why do we drink?

We drink to celebrate. “It’s awesome!” We drink to commiserate. “It sucks!” We drink to drown our sorrows. “It’s the worst!” We drink … just because. “Hey, how ya doin?”

This happy hour contains multitudes, because goddammit, San Francisco is losing another mainstay. Uptown bar is closing at the end of this year and we fucking hate that. Uptown is many things to many people, and it has been for a long time. It’s a neighborhood bar. It’s the beginning, middle, or end of a Mission bar crawl. It’s got couches, a rad “old” CD  jukebox, a pool table, a corner location a block off a pretty major SF intersection.

Local Journalism for Working stiffs

We write for the poets, busboys, and bartenders. We cover workers, not ‘tech’, not the shiny ‘forbes 100 bullshit’. We write about the business on your corner and the beer in your hand. Join the Bay's best newsletter.

But the Uptown exists in 2023 like the rest of us. We can’t have nice things, and reality is still (mostly) reality.

This feels like the downswing from the unexpected high of when we learned that, after its owner’s passing in 2014, Uptown workers pooled their resources and bought the damn place. That sure did feel like the old spirit of San Francisco, right?

All good things come to an end, I guess. Come on out, have a drink or four, and let’s send the Uptown out on the highest of notes!
