THE DELICIOUS DRINK-UPS AT SF BEER WEEK 2024

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

For beer lovers in the Bay, this is the sweetest week of the year, where over 100 craft brewers from all over Northern California roll their kegs into the Bay for tastings, parties, parings, and any other excuse to come together and drink some the finest brews in the world.

The Craft Brewing movement started in San Francisco in the 1960s (thank you Fritz Maytag), and the West Coast style has grown and spread throughout the world like a fine vine of hops in the springtime.   Starting Friday, February 9th with the Beer Week gala, and continuing around the Bay with dozens of delicious drink-ups.  Below are just a few amazing events to hit this week.

I happen to be a West Coast IPA lover with a penchant for a crisp pilsner, I also live in SF so below are some of my favorite events in SF and Oakland during SF Beer Week, but there are events ALL OVER THE BAY AREA, and you can see them all on the great SF BEER WEEK calendar here.

The SF Beer Week Opening Gala is the most anticipated and prestigious annual gathering of Northern California’s craft beer community. Join 100+ craft breweries and guests for the greatest celebration of regional craft beer in FOUR years!

It’s the singular official kick off for SF Beer Week — a must-attend directly supporting the local craft beer community and providing exclusive and pre-release access to hundreds of new and special releases from indie craft brewers across the Bay, all under one roof.

We’ll be enclosing our parklet and sidewalk seating, and making a place for our 4 legged friends to meet and play with each other. We will be pouring 12 taps of Russian River Brewing Company’s best core and special release beers, offered in flights and as single pours. Sorry, Pliny The Younger will not be on, but it will be poured when we get it delivered, at some point before beer week. Check our Instagram for the announcement. Please only bring well-behaved pooches. We’ll have water and treats for the pups, and great beer for the puppy parents. Doggy Social ends at 6pm, flights poured all day and night. Hope to see you then!

The Annual Standard Deviant Chili Cook Off is back! Professional and amateur chefs compete for prizes and try to avoid ridicule by a jolly MC who has had too many bowls of chili and just the right amount of beer. Chili is free for everybody- to get a spoon you just need to buy a beer! What better way to prep for the 49ers inevitable Super Bowl win?!? (no way we just jinxed that)

We are tapping a 15g keg of Pliny! It will sell out within an hour most likely. We will be selling tickets for the Pliny starting at 4 pm for Mug Club Members, and 5 pm for the general public. The tickets are just intended to keep the line moving smoothly. Most likely you can show up at 6 and still get a pour, but we’d suggest showing up at 5 to guarantee. If you’re not a mug club member, take a look at the perks! 10% off all food and drink for you and your party, as well as one $7 beer every Monday on the house. And you get your mug up on the wall! The membership works at either our Balboa or Irving Street locations and costs $200 for the year. It also includes entry into the mug club party at the end of the year.

We are pairing our brews with Smokin’ D’s BBQ Brisket Bao for one night only! As featured in the San Francisco Chronicle — this dish brings Smokin’ D’s and Mrs. D’s cultures together and is truly a labor of love. Texas-style smoked meats stuffed inside traditional, fluffy Chinese milk bread. Freshly baked every morning, it’s a sweet and savory flavor bomb in every bite!
