Wicked Gets a Drag Makeover at Oasis with ‘Wigged’
Oasis
298 11th St, San Francisco
Thursday to Saturday, now through December 21, 2024
Did anyone else notice that barely any mention of the fact that we’re only getting the first installment of Wicked in theaters this holiday season? Since we’re all so desperate for more green-faced magic, instead of waiting for part two, you should march your fabulous self over to Oasis to catch Drunk Drag Broadway’s Wigged. This Wicked-themed parody is just what you’ve been craving, and it’ll leave you grinning long after the show ends.
Leading the charge is the ever-glamorous, delightfully shady Elsa Touche as Madame Morrible, the unreliable narrator. Elsa gets an extra round of applause for bravely acknowledging what we all secretly know but no one dares say out loud: there are really only two songs in the Wicked soundtrack that we actually care about. You know exactly which ones I’m talking about. In fact, I bet you’re already humming them in your head as you read this.
Wigged isn’t just a Wicked send-up—it’s a Broadway romp that hops between musicals faster than a drag queen on her third martini. One moment you’re in Little Shop of Horrors, the next you’re in Hairspray, and just when you think you’ve seen it all, the show takes you somewhere new. Amoura Teese delivers a fierce Elphaba, while Polly Amber Ross‘s G(a)linda has all the charm and sass you’d expect from the iconic role. The show also features Coco Buttah as the Wizard, serving up campy villainy with just the right amount of smarm. And Titus Androgynous as the notorious Fiyero? Pure fire. His portrayal of the ‘fuck-boy’ prince is as riveting as it is hilarious. The chemistry between him and Elphaba make you believe in love… and possibly question your own taste in men. Their duet was the highlight of the night.
Tater Tot steals scenes as a hilariously awkward Boq, sporting an inexplicable yet somehow endearing baboon nose. Dot Comme’s Nessa Rose is delightfully bratty. Meanwhile, Miguel Love, Papi Churro, and David Kurkovskiy round out the ensemble, proving that Wigged is more than just a parody—it’s a celebration of Broadway, drag, and all the things we hold near and dear.
So, if you’re looking for a way to spice up your holiday season, look no further than Wigged. It’s only playing until December 21st, so be sure to get your tickets and treat yourself to an evening of Broadway fun that’s as naughty as it is nice.
