Local Finds For The Perfect Last-Minute Gift

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

We’ve only got a couple weeks left before we wrap up gift giving season and head into 2025. With so many holiday gatherings in December, I know I’m not the only one who will need a last-minute gift. There are a few ways I tackle this conundrum by shopping locally.

You can’t go wrong with tickets to a BroadwaySF show, a unique gift from STUFF or an artisan gift found at a local craft show like HEAD WEST – photos from @broadwaysf @stuffeastbay @headwestmarketplace

Head to a shop with a slew of unique gifts:

Grabbing a unique gift last minute means you don’t have a ton of time to try and find the best gift shop. Here are a handful of craft shows and shops with a variety of amazing gifts available in SF and The East Bay:

Landline Home: This shop has an incredible array of vintage and new gifts. Including a huge pyrex collection. Rumor has it that Chef Davis has shopped there for his Oakland based restaurant Burdell which was recently voted best restaurant in 2024 by Food & Wine Magazine.
717 Valencia St., San Francisco https://www.landlinehome.com/

STUFF: STUFF is a great spot for finding perfectly preserved vintage home goods with two locations nowadays – in both San Francisco and the East Bay! With multiple venders inside each location you’re sure to find a unique gift that you’d be unable to find anywhere else in The Bay.
Stuff East Bay @stuffeastbay – 619 San Pablo Avenue in Albany
Stuff by Luxe @stuffbyluxe – 1545 Pacific Ave. in San Francisco

Festive Holiday Show 2024
The artists of 1890 Bryant are hosting a Holiday Show and Sale! There will be gift-sized art for your shopping pleasure and festive refreshments to stabilize your blood sugar while boosting your spirit.

Stroll between the work of 40 artists on 2 floors. We’re talking jewelry, letterpress, fine art, wearable art, treats, prints, ceramics and more.

Open 2 days December 14th and 15th from 12pm – 5pm.

1890 Bryant Street at Mariposa

Grab a Locally Made Gift at The Airport!
One of my favorite stores on Clement. Foggy Notion features tons of locally made goods which makes it a great stop if you have a last-minute gift need. And, while Clement is a bit off the beaten path for some, Foogy Notion’s 2nd location is in potentially the most convenient stops during the holiday season, the airport. That’s right, you can find Foggy Notion and all of their locally made gifts inside SFO.

Inside SFO: TERMINAL 3

Support Small Businesses

Whether you’re treating your friend to a beer at a local bar, shopping small or attending a local craft fair, there are still plenty of ways to support small businesses while grabbing a few last-minute gifts.

KQED’s Night Market
Head to KQED’s headquarters for a fun evening — from dumpling chefs and chocolatiers to Taiwanese food creators, chili oil makers, candle artisans, painters, textile artists, bakers, and so much more. There are so many hidden gems and unique finds + a maker station where you can DIY a gift with artist Piscola Mami!

HEAD WEST Marketplace
Head West always has a broad selection of artisan goods + food stalls for when you feel hungry from your shopping adventure. The marketplace is designed to highlight the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of the region, with a focus on supporting local businesses, especially those owned by underrepresented groups. There are still a couple Head West shows in December and one just before Chrsitmas for those very very last minute gifts.
Sunday, December 15th from 11a-4p️m – N. Main Street in Walnut Creek
Sunday, December 22nd from 11a-4p – South B Street in San Mateo

Grab a Ticket to an Upcoming Show:

This year, my sister has a brilliant plan — she’s gifting one of her kids two tickets to see his favorite band. She knows how much it’ll mean to him, and it made me realize that experiences might just be the best last-minute gift. Here are some of my favorite upcoming shows that would make a great last-minute gift.

Head To a Broadway Show:
I just took my 12-year old nephew to see Hamilton and we had an absolute blast. On the way home he just went on and on and on about every song and his favorite characters. The moment was so precious to me that this article was actually inspired by it. So many amazing shows coming up in 2025 and any one of them would be an experience to remember. Whether you’re laughing along to Shrek, shedding a tear during Annie or momentarily blasting through time in Back To The Future – The Musical, the line up has something for everyone, truly.

Froggy at Center Repertory Company
Center Rep has some great things in their line up also coming up! My recommendation is Froggy, a groundbreaking thriller that blends graphic novels, film noir, and cutting-edge virtual media into a sensory-rich theatrical experience. Set in 2007, it follows Froggy’s obsession with her missing boyfriend as she unravels dark secrets hidden within a violent underground video game, leading her into a dangerous, mind-bending quest.

Katy has lived in The Bay Area since the age of 3. While other kids were attending summer camp & soccer practice, she was raised selling wares at craft shows with her working artist parents and spent vacations in a small 1920s Montana log cabin. This has all given her a unique perspective on the ever-changing texture of San Francisco and the Greater Bay Area. Currently a blend of all that is The Bay Area - she's a web designer at a tech-company, artist and DIY teacher.
