Unless you’re one of those weird people who defend billionaires on the internet, you know that we are currently watching our economic system get brutally picked apart so that a handful of people at the top can get even richer. As if this wasn’t happening already, the Trump Administration, Elon Musk, and their GOP allies have put this into hyperdrive. By doing things like codifying the discrimination of Trans people, deporting undocumented workers, and tearing down DEI initiatives, they are distracting us from the fact that we are on the extreme losing side of the biggest wealth transfer in history.

So how do we, as individuals, fight back against the richest people and corporations in history? Well, we don’t, at least not as individuals. What we do is fight back collectively! History has shown again and again that the best way for regular people to win power and equity is to organize, work together, and hit the wealthy where it hurts the most: their wallets. And that’s why there’s a nationwide economic blackout called for February 28th.

While it’s not sure exactly where the idea for the blackout began, a guy who goes by TheOneCalledJai on Instagram, and his organization The People’s Union, have been going viral. According to The People’s Union’s website, here’s how the Nationwide Economic Blackout will work:

For those wondering how not spending money for one day can change anything, TheOneCalledJai very eloquently lays it out right here:

Who knows, maybe this will turn into something bigger. I certainly hope so. I won’t be spending any money on February 28th unless it’s with a small business. It would be wonderful if you did the same. Working collectively is how we win a better world.
